Vintage Unique Black Leather US Ammo? Military? Belt Pouch, Bag, Homemade?

I found this at an estate sale, therefore PLEASE SEE PICS FOR BEST DESCRIPTION and use the zoom function to examine condition because I am not familiar with the item. Sold AS IS.
It measures about 5.5"×5.5". The snaps and latch works as they should. Appears well made. Leather is soft and supple.
